Mojito Dining Table wins Asia Design Prize Gold Medal

In the world today where the tide of globalization is accelerating, the say on design is no longer monopolized by the western world. An increasing number of Asian designers are now setting their eyes on local social issues and using meaningful designs to reflect their concerns. Many designers are doing their parts just so that the voice of Asia could be heard by the whole world.


The winners of the 2020 Asia Design Prize were announced recently. After a series of selections by a professional review board, the winning pieces were for different fields including product design, space design and visual communication and so forth, which all showed their respective boundless creativity and individualized claims in unique language. Expocasa’s Mojito dining table from its Now & Future collection won the gold medal of the 2020 design prize. Asia Design Prize is the index prize in Asia co-hosted by Japan and Korea. Besides seeking design works with novel concepts and creative development, it also hopes to bring changes and influences the society; therefore, such prize means that winner will lead the future and become the rising target in the field of design. Meanwhile, innovative breakthrough and giving back to the world are also criteria for the competition; under the principle of fairness and openness without disclosing personal information, the representative design works are eventually picked out after rounds of selection and review.

The top of the Mojito dining table has the structure where glass panel is embedded into a solid wood frame, which saves the use of wood, and makes the table top lighter while adhering the idea of environmental protection. When in practical use, users can feel how naturally comfortable solid wood could be with their arms, and the glass table top also makes it easier to clean. The Y-shaped metal frame at the bottom of the tabletop is inspired by the steel structure of bridges, which provides the tabletop steady support with reasonable cantilever structure. The Y-shaped metal frame is made with parameterized manufacturing technique such as laser cutting, mold bending, to effectively ensure the accuracy and assembling precision of product shape. The solid wood frame processed with special techniques including embedded high-strength support material ensures the load-bearing strength of table top in different sizes. The combination of glass, metal and solid wood as well as the reasonable structure designs of different parts make sure that the product achieves effective balance in terms of its visual effect, strength and technology. In addition, it also suits a variety of scenarios, making it a table that offers both excellent user experience and aesthetic value.
